Intel has announced an update to its Thunderbolt 3 TB3 controller. While and controllers are targeted at computer OEMs, the JHL controller is targeted at peripheral device makers. It will offer advanced features and performance when the same device is connected to a TB3 port. Like the other two variants, also brings support for DisplayPort 1. Intel is looking to bring products with JHL7x40 controllers in The controller enables users to hook up high resolution monitors to their notebooks while charging their notebooks at the same time directly from the monitor.
Users can also daisy chain an additional 4K monitor or use two monitors at x resolution at Hz. The controller also benefits enterprises by being compatible with existing USB-C ports and scaling according to the native capabilities of the port. The USB-C compatibility of the controller will definitely be appreciated by a lot of users as it removes the immediate need to buy a TB3 equipped PC. However, we are not quite sure as to when those plans would come to fruition.

Plugged the TB drive in turned the system on went into bios to check setting but no TB options. Let the system boot noticed the drive that was plugged into TR was showing in clover since it was a cloned drive I choose to boot from the drive.
System booted without issue from the drive plugged into the TR. I was not able to archive Hotplug with Thunderbolt device before or after the bios update but for usb 3. I guess when my new CPU arrives I could test the card in zHD3 that does not even have a header and see if I at least get it to connect the drive.

So it makes a lot of sense for Intel to maximize the compatibility of TB3 peripherals before third-party TB3 controllers emerge. Intel has not published pricing of the new Titan Ridge controllers and intends to do so later in the quarter. As for the availability of devices featuring the new controllers, I suspect we're going to see them sooner than later.

The specs do not have anything that would indicate that - though being a next-gen device can certainly help in indirect ways. Faster device enumeration means less of the lag in between plugging it in and it loading.
If the OS is managing enumeration, presumably it can allocate straight into the bit address space, so no more resource errors for those people who suffer them I have never had such issues with Thunderbolt. Speculation only - In terms of performance, it might remove a little latency or apply some optimisations here and there. Even most Intel people do not seem aware of the 22Gbps limitation. If the Windows driver needs altering, it cannot be done, as the Windows driver is not open source, and any modified driver will presumably need WHQL signing. They do not need PCIe 3. If Thunderbolt 3 is enough for most times, then the full PCIe 3. I do not have the Asus AIC as it has only one port. Wasting power to achieve nothing? Or b they surely have some extra room in a 15W chip to add some more PCIe lanes, particularly if this allows for dropping the chipset to save some power there. Well, it seems like all the PCIe lanes are used, unfortunately. Still unclear whether or not it counts as being attached directly to the CPU.
I do not know what performance penalty is incurred. One way to look at it is if they were lower performance, you would think they would put the Thunderbolt or M. I also wonder why they need multiple PCIe controllers Maybe the chips that become Y-branded ones have a silicon fault in one of the controllers and this allows them to disable it and still sell the chip.
